Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of insurance do you take?
This is the most frequently asked question. I accept private pay for therapy and consultation services as well as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Tricare. Generally mental health services are covered with a modest copay of $10-$40/per session depending on your particular coverage, but some may require you to pay full rate until a deductible is met.
What is your style?
This is hard to cover in a brief statement, but I’m a very comfortable, knowledgable therapist with experience in many different settings from traditional couples therapy to working with the criminally insane. This experience allows me to meet you where your issues might be… need someone to push you a little, I’ll do that… need some comfort and support through a difficult transition I can be that.
What is “telemedicine”?
Telemedicine is the provision of traditional therapy services through video. This is similar in feel to “Skyping” or “Facetiming” with friends or family, but instead you are face to face in real-time with your therapist. The interventions and services provided are virtually identical and the session will still last from 45-60minutes. You will always see me on the other end and patients describe a short period of getting used to the medium and then enjoying it for its convenience and ease.
Do you do psychological testing?
Yes I do a wide range of psychological testing from forensic evaluations to achievement and cognitive testing. Again check with your insurance as to whether they will cover any of these services, or reimburse you for a portion of them.
What is therapy?
Therapy is a pretty broad description of sitting in a room with a professional discussing issues ranging from disruptive to severely clinical. My style is based on a positive, strengths-based, psychodynamic style.
Will you do a presentation for my group?
Yes. I do presentations for a wide variety of groups. I often present to workplaces on threat reduction, stress management, and general psychological issues. I have also taught classes and presented at conferences regarding work stress, violence, and dealing with difficult and disruptive individuals. (List of potential topics can be found here)
